Dominic Latorraca
Dominic (Dom) Latorraca has been a resident of Asbury Park since 2008 with over 30 years of experience in education as a community college administrator and teacher. Most recently, he was Director of Workforce Development at Brookdale Community College for 9 years. He has managed large budgets and supervised hundreds of faculty and staff in his positions as an academic dean and as an academic vice president in the post-secondary educational field.
Dominic has established strong ties in the Asbury Park community, and has served the community in the following ways:
Asbury Park School Board member from 2016-22, serving as chair of the Finance Committee in his second term. In those 6 years, the NJ State Department of Education quality ratings for the AP School Board rose from below 50% to over 90%, reflecting its increased effectiveness. The Board approved millions of dollars to purchase supplemental curriculum products and train teachers on the use of these products to increase student academic performance;
Owned and operated, along with his wife, a successful Asbury Park business, Purple Glaze Donuts, which employed Asbury Park High School students, supported a variety of non-profit organizations, and was active with the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce. Upon forming the business, Dominic and his wife started a scholarship program for Asbury Park High School graduates that is now in its seventh year;
Member of Trinity Church in Asbury Park and was a former member of the church vestry;
Board member of the Eastern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce for seven years having chaired the membership committee and later served as board secretary;
Currently is the treasurer of the Asbury Park Homeowners Association and recently joined the Asbury Park Kiwanis Club.
Dominic graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers University Law School-Newark, and was a practicing Colorado-licensed attorney for over ten years prior to his career in education administration.
Dominic has been an advocate for effective and efficient public education throughout his career. He strongly believes public education is the means by which individuals can reach whatever personal and professional goals they set out to accomplish. He has shown his commitment to the students and parents of Asbury Park’s public education system through his work on various non-profits, the community engagement by his retail business, and his previous service on the Asbury Park School Board.
